For safety purposes I won’t be mentioning any names or the name of the church. There will be part two of my time with the church.
I took the chance to step out and step into the unknown. That of which is stepping into being more of a leader and making choices. I was looking for a church for a few days to attend one in Jordan. I finally ended up feeling pulled to one of the churches, so I ended up attending the church. After the service I talked with one of the worship leaders and they invited myself and Brett to come back to talk with the pastor the next day. That is exactly what we ended up doing. We talked with the pastor about why we are here and he ended up telling us his needs for the church regarding ministry. We then ended up getting a tour of the facilities and instantly helped out at one of the schools. They have school all year round except for like 2 weeks off between the time of Christmas and New Years. That is the only time the kids have off from school.
Towards the end of the tour we had time to help out a bit. So they ended up throwing us into separate classrooms as teachers. I got thrown into a class that knew English pretty well and had to teach them math. I loved math growing up and was good at it. Now I don’t enjoy it and struggle with it. I had to get my calculator on my phone out a couple times just to make sure I was doing the math right. I even allowed the kids to give me questions to solve and tried my best to play a math game with them. Well towards the end of it as the kids started leaving for different buses my heart broke as one of them said to me “I wish you were my teacher” I asked the kid what they said in case I heard wrong and because it took me by surprise, they smiled and said “nothing”. It amazes me so much how God can use someone in their weaknesses.
A couple days later Brett, Natalie and I went back to the church to help support the refugees handcrafted souvenirs by purchasing some and to help them out with making bags for families so they can have warm clothes and some food. After some time here the entire squad went to Wadi Rum for a few days and ministered there, both to each other and to the locals there (blog about this to come). We arrived back to where we are staying at in Jordan and it is ATL for about a week until we can do ministry with our hosts. Which is the church Brett and I connected with. Not sure if they were already our host contact prior to us going or if we instantly made that connection and instantly got plugged in with them. As I was informed that a group was coming but wasn’t informed if it was us or another group. Be on the look out for a part two of my experience doing ministry with the church.
So awesome! Love hearing your stories and you doing ATL! Gosh I miss that. I need to start again. Blessings to you!
So cool Michael. I can so easily see you being a great teacher! Be on the lookout for the gift of teaching in yourself, as that wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
So cool!!! Love that God gave you such a sweet opportunity and connection with this church.
